March 10, 2010

Dear Parents,

It is getting close to the deadline for the registration discount. Please send in your registration for the upcoming school year by March 12th to get the registration discount. If you lost the goldenrod registration paper, if your child will not be returning to Presentation, or if you are still undecided please return the registration form in this week’s communication.

We raised $3,000.52 for the Math-a-thon St. Jude Children Research Hospital. We had 87 students participate. Our highest pledge was a total of $130.00 by Satrea Turner. I'm very proud of the super job the students did. Thank you to all the parents, family members, neighbors and especially the students for the wonderful job they did raising money for an important cause.

Terra Nova testing and the second trimester end this Friday; report cards will be issued the week of the 22nd.

Please revise your March calendar and include our make up days for the snow days. I have attached a copy of the make up days so you can adjust your calendars. I do understand that some families make arrangements for trips based on our calendar. If your child is absent due to a scheduled family activity we understand but the days are still marked as absences since the state requires us to make up the snow days.

Registration- This is for NEW students not those presently enrolled:

Enrollment for new families to register for the 2010-2011 school year will be held at Presentation B.V.M School on:  Thursday, March 18th from 8:30am to 11:00am and Tuesday, March 30th from 1:30pm until 3:00pm.

Please share this information with at least three families in your neighborhood. Our best marketing tool is YOU! If each family could bring in one new family our school would be full! The school can pay to market itself but a satisfied customer is the best advertisement. Please don’t think someone else can do this we need YOU!!!!! I would be happy to send home school brochures to anyone who would like to share the good news of Pres on their block and in their neighborhood. I haven’t gotten any request for info please help market your child’s school! Remember we have a great preschool as well as a terrific elementary school!

The second mandatory fundraiser will be starting this week. If you would like to order a box of candy please complete the candy form and your box of candy bars will be sent home with your child. This is one of the fundraisers that count toward the fundraising fee. I would like to clarify the school’s two main fundraisers: in the fall the “Gifts ‘n Things and in the early spring the candy bar sale or any H&S raffle sales over the first 12 tickets. We ask every family to sell a total of $150 in one or the other of these two sales (or any combination). This raises $75 towards the operating expenses of the school. This was initiated as a way to prevent the tuition from a higher raise to cover costs. You may choose to contribute $75 and not participate in either fundraiser; this is your choice. But in fairness to all who do their part it is vital that everyone participates in the one way or another. If you sell $100 worth of items your monetary contribution would be $25. I hope this clarifies the mix up and all will chip in to do their share.

I am extending the ordering time to this Friday for the yearbooks. To order more they must be ordered in increments of 25. If anyone did not order a book and would like to order one please send in your order March 12th. If we have enough orders we will increase our order otherwise we will refund your $20.00.

March is Nutrition Awareness Month. This is a perfect opportunity to look at what our children are eating and to encourage healthy choices. During lunch room supervision I witness many students eating the candy bars in the prepackaged “lunchables” and then throwing away the meat, cheese, and crackers!

The scheduled H&S Mother/Son Event has a save the date flyer in this week’s communication The Home and School also has a nomination form; we have two outgoing board members this spring. Also our Home and School By Laws have been revised thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. Hurst. As a member of the association you are asked to read the by laws then at our next Home and School General Meeting a vote will be taken. Our Board has been very dedicated to offering social, educational and fundraising opportunities to our school community and I am indebted to their goodness!

Terra Nova testing begins this Friday and continues through next week for the students in grades K to 7. Please be sure your child gets plenty of rest, a good breakfast and a calm, stress free, “can do” attitude!

Between the snow and the forecasters we have had more than enough time off! Now it’s time to make up for all those days. In taking a careful look at our calendar the decision is difficult.

Calendar changes to date include: school will be in session on Friday, March 19th and Monday, April 5th.  Further calendar changes will be made later this month.

Registration- for NEW students is ongoing. Please share this information with at least three families in your neighborhood. Our best marketing tool is YOU! Thank you to the parents who volunteered to help with hot dog and pizza day. It is so kind of you to give your time to our children!

If anyone did not order a book and would like to order one please send in your order by March 5th.  If we have enough orders we will increase our order otherwise we will refund your $20.00.

Thank you to all the participants in the Penny Race. The top class and winner for grades K to 4 was grade 4 with a total of $215.86.  The top class and winner for grades 5 to 8 was grade 7 room 15 with a total of $ 278.10. The true winners are all our children as these funds (totaling $1589.27) will be used to upgrade older dying systems. Thank you also to our parents and teachers for participating and making this “Fun-raiser” such a success! Thank you

The scheduled H&S Mother/Son Event for March 13th will be rescheduled at a later date.

February 24, 2010

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to our second graders; last Thursday evening these children received the sacrament of Reconciliation. Please keep them in your prayers as they continue to prepare for their First Holy Communion in early May.

As we continue our Lenten Journey the students will be attending the Stations of the Cross weekly. This week the Stations will be on Thursday at 1:45 in church. Our Lenten project will be to collect for Catholic Charities through the Nickels for Neighbors program. Check out our interactive bulletin boards where the students are making weekly changes to grow closer to Jesus.

Bishop McDevitt HS - The school is offering a $50 discount on the registration fee until March 1st at which time the fee increases to $200. Also, attached is a flyer describing an opportunity for students to enter an essay contest to win the registration fee.

If you haven’t returned your registration form for the upcoming school year please return your goldenrod colored form.

Registration- This is for NEW students not those presently enrolled. Please share this information with at least three families in your neighborhood. Our best marketing tool is YOU! If each family could bring in one new family our school would be full! The school can pay to market itself but truly a satisfied customer is the best advertisement. Please don’t think someone else can do this we need YOU!!!!!  I would be happy to send home school brochures to anyone who would like to share the good news of Pres on their block and in their neighborhood. I haven’t gotten any request for info please help market your child’s school! Remember we have a great preschool and a terrific elementary school!

I did not get any volunteers for pizza or hot dog lunch days. Without your help we cannot continue to provide these special lunches. If I do not have the volunteers I will need to look at the feasibility of continuing these programs. It can be as little as once a month on a Tuesday or a Thursday. Please consider helping.

The Yearbook orders were sufficient to order the book. One hundred books are ordered. To order more they must be ordered in increments of 25. If anyone did not order a book and would like to order one please send in your order by February 26th. If we have enough orders we will increase our order otherwise we will refund your $20.00.

Hopefully the snow will be washed away this week and spring will come early! Our calendar has two snow days built into the year. A plan for making up the three extra snow days must be developed.

Included in this week’s communication are:
