** How to Save on Tuition Expenses **

Nov 20, 2008

During the year of Saint Paul we will be focusing on the life of Saint Paul and how he became a follower of Christ. His journey wasn’t an easy one and some days ours isn’t an easy one either. We will pray a prayer to Saint Paul every day and each child was given their own prayer card to take home and to pray with their family too.

In conjunction with learning about the life of a follower of Jesus Christ we are also looking at what we do as followers of Christ to serve others. I know we give to the poor, we contribute to many worthwhile collections to help others. The children learn to give service when they realize what service is and they see service modeled. I know so very many of our families do service after all I see so many of you helping at school, with CYO, with scouts, and in the larger community. In school we are starting a visual interactive display of our Christian service. Service means an act or action to benefit someone else that receives no compensation. As members of our community do service for others, they receive a hand to hang in the hallway.

All families will be able to download a hand from out website to contribute to the chain. Hopefully this visual reminder will encourage all to serve others. Each month will have a different color hand. (Nov.- orange; Dec.- dark green; Jan.- blue; Feb.- red; March- light green; April, yellow; May, pink). I hope you will be part of “our giving hands” and send in a hand with the family name on one side and the service noted on the other side in the palm of the hand. Together we support one another’s efforts to raise our future leaders.

Next week our Thanksgiving Prayer Service will be held at 11:30 on Wednesday; the students will be dismissed at 12:15. There will be a family communication next week. Grade 8 parents will receive Neumann Scholarship information on Thursday; when we get the Terra Nova results we will then send a letter home with all eligible students.

The faculty and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of all our efforts and may all enjoy a blessed and bountiful Thanksgiving holiday.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Nancy Scharnikow

Thank you for your participation in the various Christmas Bazaar requests. These donations help to make this enjoyable day a huge success! Please remember to come back on Saturday for a family dinner and Santa! The students may dress down in their holiday colors for bazaar day.

Congratulations to Aileen Walsh, Aileen’s art work was selected out of over 700 entries to be published as a calendar page for the upcoming DARE Calendar. We are looking forward to displaying the calendar.

Last week’s Internet Safety presentation at our Home and School meeting was sparsely attended. The topic was vital to your child’s safety online. I am including some information that was part of the presentation and I strongly suggest that parent’s visit and use the Netsmartz lessons to help educate even our younger children.

Another safety point much closer to home is the continued stopping and dropping off in front of school. This is a very dangerous practice. Accidents have happened in the past and we don’t want a tragedy to happen. The licenses of cars stopping to drop off at the barricades and in front of the building are being gathered and given to the police. If you stop there you are endangering the students who are crossing at the barricades. Once again I beg you to drop off on the other side of the bridge or on Woodland St. next to the church. And please do not try to go around the barricades when they are in place. The children believe they are safe to walk when the barricades are in place.

Looking to become involved in your child’s school community? Think about joining the Technology Team, The Development Team or become a lunch monitor! The Teach Team is meeting this evening at 7PM.

Reminders: No School- Nov. 14th, Boys Varsity Soccer Game- Friday 7PM at Jardel (come support the team), Nov. 26th .Bazaar-Nov. 21st and 22nd, Thanksgiving Prayer Service.

Thank you for your “family links” to our November Prayer chain (for all living and deceased members of our families); we pray for all these people every day in our morning prayers.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Nancy Scharnikow

The Home and School General meeting is this evening and I am looking forward to a good turn out for this meeting. I realize we are all pulled in many directions and can’t always attend every thing. This evening will be an opportunity to build school community relax and enjoy adult conversation and learn some interesting facts about internet safety. Our PowerPoint presentation will be helpful in your providing your children with the boundaries and security they need.

This Friday the students who qualified for the Limo to Lunch will be whisked off to Nifty Fifties. I thank all the families for participating in the fall fundraiser.

A special thank you to the saints in Grade one and the pantomime of grade three for our prayer service last week. The November strips of paper were sent home on Tuesday.

Dress Down Day for Box tops is tomorrow. Students may dress down in appropriate clothing if they bring in 5 box tops or 50¢. A family max of 10 box tops has also been established.

It has been wonderful having the preschoolers in our building this year. We are having the convent backyard fenced in for their play area and we are looking for some gently used outdoor yard items for them. So if you have a plastic house, sliding board or other type of apparatus that you would like to donate please let me know.

Thank you for returning the orange or yellow construction paper with the names of your living family and friends on the one side and the deceased on the other. They will be added to our prayer chain for November. We will keep you and your loved ones in our daily prayers.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Nancy Scharnikow
