Congratulations to our Neumann
Scholar
Mary Campion joined the long list of Presentation Neumann Scholars
whose academic achievements have resulted in the awarding of a full
four-year scholarship to the Archdiocesan high school of her
choice. Mary was one of
over 900 students who took a qualifying test in January and the
scores of that test plus her record of accomplishment and an essay
about her preference for a high school education in one of the
Archdiocese’s high schools put her on the short list for this
honor.
Mary is an outstanding student in every respect. She has qualified to be a
member of the Octathlon team in successive years and, considering
the level of competition, that is no small achievement. She was named to the
Archdiocesan Honor Band and has won several academic awards at the
end of each school year.
Mary is also a faithful altar server and has participated in
the March for Life in Washington, D.C. for several
years.
Mary’s Neumann Scholarship entitles her to a tuition-free
ride through four years of high school and that also includes
increases during those years.
The Connelly Foundation also offers numerous opportunities
for their Neumann Scholars to participate in summer activities at
such prestigious places as the University of Notre Dame. Mary will be attending
Little Flower High School for Girls in September and the
Presentation community is looking forward to hearing great things
about this great person.

B.V.M. School’s Honor Band
Members
Six students from Presentation B.V.M. were recently
selected to be members of the Philadelphia Area Honor Band. Mary Campion, Molly Larkin,
Patrick Masluk, Mary Kate Walsh, Stephanie Ochabillo, and Aileen
Walsh will represent our school this year. This Honor Band is an
audition-based group of about 70 students from Catholic and
Christian schools throughout the Philadelphia area. The students will attend
five rehearsals and then perform a concert at Villanova
University on
Sunday, April 18th, at 3:00 p.m.

Student Wins Art Contest
Aileen Walsh, presently a sixth
grader at Presentation
B.V.M. School, Cheltenham, PA, designed a grocery bag to
celebrate Earth Day, April 22, 2009. The Acme Supermarket
selected her as one of three winners out of the many entries from
parochial, public, and charter schools. Her artwork is currently
featured on the Acme reusable bags that can be purchased at
Presentation for $2.00.
This small donation will help fund the Fine Arts Program at
the school.

Muppet Madness at Presentation
B.V.M. School
The third graders of Presentation B.V.M. School, Cheltenham, PA, celebrated the 40th
birthday of one of their all-time favorite TV shows, Sesame
Street. The
children watched videos via UnitedStreaming to learn the magic
behind the puppetry of Jim Henson. They saw how Kermit is just
a simple sock puppet (as if Kermit could ever be “just
simple”!). His
expressions have given all of us a “frog’s-eye view” into his
personality and are masterfully crafted by the hand movements of the
puppeteer.
As if by frog intervention, the class decided that as
soon as possible puppets needed to be made to celebrate this
momentous birthday. The
rest is history – spoon puppets were born! We have Freddie, Emily,
Zachary, Peace, Mississippi, Celine, Jo-Jo,
Spoonie, Lizard Man, just to name a few. Some creators’ comments
were: “amazing,”
“fabulous,” “brilliant,” “smart,” “wacky,” “spectacular,” and
“awesome,” This was
time well spent and there has to be a performance on the
horizon!
All Saints Parade
With great pride and much creativity the first grade
presented its annual All Saints Parade in Presentation B.V.M. Church
on Thursday, October 29. As usual, the children
dressed as a particular saint and spoke lovingly about his or
her saint's Christian characteristics and feast day.
The third grade also enriched the student body with its
All Saints Pantomime that also includes facts about the saints'
lives. How lucky are
the students at Pres to have such outstanding
classes!
